The Wooden Spoon opens cooking school, offers classes for all levels of culinary connoisseurs

CHICAGO — Jan. 27, 2003 — The Wooden Spoon, an Andersonville-based business offering gourmet kitchenware and cooking classes, announced today the opening of its cooking school.

The Wooden Spoon, opened on Dec. 7, 2002, by co-owners Trina and Sean Sheridan, will offer a variety of classes in its cooking school’s kitchen, which features Viking appliances and a custom-designed viewing area.

Classes to be offered include:
-- Knife skills,
-- Tantalizing tapas,
-- Thai cooking basics,
-- Everything chocolate,
-- Taking stock: Learn to create a variety of stocks and soups,
-- Brunch for 20,
-- Stir-fry fundamentals,
-- Simply sushi, and
-- Perfect pies.

“Our location provided initial inspiration for the classes we offer,” says Wooden Spoon President Trina Sheridan. “Andersonville is such a vibrant and diverse backdrop, it lends itself to being the perfect location for cooking classes on a variety of regional cuisines and food preparation skills.”

Community collaboration
Community resources will be further incorporated into classes where guest chefs from local restaurants and businesses will present both hands-on and demonstration classes.

A Taste of Heaven head chef and owner Dan McCauley will host the first of these community-teaming classes when he presents and demonstrates bread, scones and muffin recipes used daily at his bakery, in two classes held on Feb. 1 and Feb. 8.

“Our cooking school’s classes and comfortable learning atmosphere appeal to students at all skill levels,” says Sheridan. “Whether you are a home cook or industry professional, there’s something for everyone in each course.”
